John Donegal Herringbone Tweed Trousers - Blue
John Trousers in Donegal Herringbone Tweed
The John Trousers in Donegal Tweed interpret our most iconic model through one of the richest and most distinctive variations in the collection, where two classic elements of textile tradition meet: the herringbone pattern and the typical colorful threads of Donegal.
Crafted from original certified Irish Donegal Tweed, they feature a blue base with a characteristic "V"-shaped zigzag pattern, which, as the name suggests, resembles a herring skeleton, rendered even deeper by the presence of typical colored flecks distributed throughout the fabric. The result is a particularly textured surface, where the regularity of the herringbone meets the chromatic irregularity typical of Donegal.
A matching shirt jacket is also available in the same fabric, tailored in Italy according to sartorial standards, designed to be paired with the trousers to create an ensemble with a strong character.
The model features double pleats, designed to offer greater volume and comfort in the upper part of the trousers while maintaining an elegant and well-defined line. Spacious side pockets, the characteristic front watch pocket, and externally applied buttons for suspenders complete the construction of our iconic John model.
DONEGAL TWEED
The Donegal Tweed takes its name from County Donegal, on the north-western coast of Ireland, a region with a long tradition of wool processing.
One of the elements that makes it immediately recognizable is the inclusion in the weave of small colored threads and fibers, the characteristic flecks or neps. Their deliberately irregular distribution creates points of color that emerge from the background and make the fabric's surface particularly lively.
In this variation, the traditional chromatic richness of Donegal combines with the "V"-shaped zigzag pattern, which, as the name suggests, resembles a herring skeleton. Born between Scotland and Ireland during the nineteenth century, this fabric owes its origins to a very concrete need: to offer warmth, durability, and protection from the elements. Over time, its qualities made it a staple of the British aristocracy's wardrobe, which adopted it for country life, outdoor activities, and hunting.
One of the most classic designs of the British wardrobe, creating an even deeper and more sophisticated texture.
The fabric retains all the characteristics that make Donegal particularly suitable for the cold season: great warmth, body, durability, and comfort.
